So we’re leaving Earth, now what? Does it mean that we abandon our planet and start from scratch on another planet? I imagine there are hundreds of philosophical questions that have already developed from different people with different life experiences viewing our transition of the impact that inhabiting other worlds will have on our planet Earth. For example, I’ve heard it once or twice that when you leave something behind it is only then that you realize how important it is. So perhaps, leaving Earth will give us an opportunity to recognize how important it is and motivate us to reinvent how we leverage it.

In a previous article we explored the idea of developing innovative technology that would survive the elements of another world.

“Innovative technology and solutions to deep space travel will take shape as entrepreneurs advance new markets. Old technologies will resurface with new designs and innovative engineering will enable these technologies for deep space applications. Humans who take up permanent residence in space will want their own access to Amazon and delivery of consumer products. In fact, it’s likely that their psychological state of mind and health will require that they have access to many of the things they are used to having when they were living on Earth.”

So what are some of the things that will change on Earth as a result of humans living on Mars? We have yet to land the first human on Mars and we can already see a change in educational programs on Earth. For example, STEAM Space (www.steamspaceeducation.org) is exploring “education in the world of space and space colonization to all young minds”. There are also seemingly more and more exhibits focused on Mars at discovery centers like the Space Foundation Discovery Center (www.discoverspace.org). I imagine that these kind of changes in educational curriculum will influence our understanding of life on Earth, ultimately influencing how we perceive our current life circumstances.

I would be interested in hearing from others about how you would reinvent Earth now that we’re leaving it for another planet. Please email me at [email protected] or share your thoughts in this blog.
